This year after each Indianapolis Colts game, Colts 101 will hand out our “Antoine Bethea Awards.” These awards are named after the Colts safety whose hard work made him a Pro Bowler despite being drafted in the sixth round.
These players are critical for winning teams. They are guys who don’t arrive with the pomp and pageantry of a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, but work just as hard at their craft. They’re the guys who reporters and fans have to check the roster to identify them by their numbers during practices and games. They’re the guys who sit quietly by their lockers, maybe answering one or two interview requests while the rest of the media throngs around the “superstar.”
Like Bethea, they become the “glue” of a unit. Here are the Bethea Award winners for the first preseason contest against the Rams:
