According to Scott Bair of the North County Times, the Chargers will hold out both quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates for tonight’s preseason game.
Bair wrote; “Given that Gates is as healthy as he’s ever been, the risk of changing that was too great, especially when so many Vikings starters will be playing for an extended period.”
If Gates can stay healthy this season, the Chargers could be a very dangerous team in the AFC West.

San Diego Chargers coaches have decided to sit starting QB Philip Rivers and star TE Antonio Gates. This decision is most likely in light of the two losses of key offensive weapons in two weeks of pre-season play.
However, the decision is also two fold. They most likely chose to sit those two particular players not only because they are so important to the offense, but because...
San Diego first-round draft pick Melvin Ingram left the Chargers' preseason game against Minnesota because of a bruised left thigh.
The 18th overall draft pick out of South Carolina went down late in the third quarter Friday night while rushing the passer. He crumpled to the turf and was in noticeable pain as he was helped off the field by two trainers. The Chargers announced...
Chargers take on the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome tonight at 5:00 (PDT). The Chargers head into Minnesota with a 2-0 pre-season record.

The Chargers can almost be counted on to struggle off the hop, in the middle or at the end of each season. Injuries play a big part, but the biggest problem is that you can’t make...
Nick Novak's 45-yard field goal as time expired gave the San Diego Chargers a 12-10 victory on Friday over Minnesota, after Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder struggled along with the rest of the starting offense.
Nate Kaeding made field goals of 50 and 54 yards for the Chargers (No. 16 in the AP Pro32 rankings). Novak, the token training camp competitor who'll most likely...
The Chargers are a talented bunch of players that have underperformed at times. We review their top options, some of whom aren’t expected to play Friday.
From Christian Ponder's off-target throws for Minnesota to San Diego's depleted offense to a bunch of bungled calls by the replacement officials, this was a preseason game in every way.
The Chargers at least went home happy with the way their defense is playing. The Vikings were reminded that their offense isn't ready yet for September.
Nick Novak's 45-yard field...
