Over the years several people have tried to develop a stat that best measures how good a quarterback is. The passer rating is still used today, but since its development we have moved on to yards per pass attempt, net yards per pass attempt and adjusted net yards per pass attempt. If you read Pro Football Reference regularly, you probably know by now that net yards per pass attempt (NY/A) is a better stat to use to predict future performance and that adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) is a better stat to look at history. Chase Stuart had a post recently about the correlation coefficient Read more [...]

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Chris Hoke announced on Wednesday that he will be a coaching intern for the team this year at training camp. Hoke, who originally signed with the Steelers in 2001 as an undrafted free agent out of BYU, played 11 seasons in Pittsburgh before retiring in January of 2012. "I'm going to do a coaching internship with Coach Mitchell...

The Pittsburgh Steelers Most Underrated Moves of the 2013 Off-Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a typical off-season again this year. Their bigger moves were the ones that had to do with players leaving the team. James Harrison, Keenan Lewis, Casey Hampton, Max Starks, Rashard Mendenhall and Mike Wallace are all gone and a lot of young players are on the verge of playing much bigger roles for the team. Even though the team didn’t make any big moves...

It's time to shine or go home for Pittsburgh Steelers DE Ziggy Hood

There might not be that many measurable stats for a 3 – 4 defensive lineman but it is this writer’s opinion that the defensive line is quite possibly the most important unit of a 3 – 4 scheme. There aren’t a shower of accolades like in the wake of sacks and the position itself is downright brutal, having to many times absorb a pounding double-team from angry 300lb O-Line...

Steelers 2013 Training Camp Schedule Announced

In just a little more than two weeks from today, the Pittsburgh Steelers will report to Latrobe for training camp. Despite preparations being behind at St. Vincent College because of all the rain the area has had recently, the college is still expected to be ready on time to host the Steelers for a 48th consecutive year. Steelers.com released the complete training camp schedule...

Healing Of Troy And The Youth Movement To Come: A Look At The Steel Curtain Defensive Backs

In 2012 Polamalu battled injuries and only managed to start in 7 games, recording 34 total tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception. Polamalu battled a nagging calf injury all last season, nothing new for Troy as he has been ravaged by injuries throughout his career. I guess 10 years of hitting like he hits does take its toll on the body. Polamalu’s aggressive style is what has made...

Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp Question Marks: Shaun Suisham

Last season Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham had the second best year of his NFL career based on field goal percentage. Prior to the 2013 season, though, Suisham was only consistent in his constant inconsistency. Year to year Suisham has struggled to put together back-to-back successful seasons. For that reason it is hard to figure out just what the Steelers may get from...

Jarvis Jones believes that playing in a 3-4 defense at Georgia will help him transition to Steelers defense

The Steelers selected Jarvis Jones 17th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. Jones played in a 3-4 scheme while in college at Georgia. “Georgia’s 3-4 system under Coach Grantham was very helpful for me and my pro career at Pittsburgh, said Jones via georgiadogs.com. There may be more to do here and it may be more complex, but what I learned at Georgia has given me an advantage with...

Season 3, Episode 117 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I start of by talking about the new contract signed Monday by New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz as it relates to the one that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown signed last year in training camp. That discussion leads to us talking more about young receivers such as Cruz that are probably...

Somebody Has To Fill Harrison’s Shoes At Right Outside Linebacker For The Steelers

By Matthew Marczi Even though he may not have been given the biggest contract out of those who left the Pittsburgh Steelers this year via free agency, James Harrison was certainly the greatest. Mike Wallace may have gotten $60 million from the Miami Dolphins—and that is fair market value for his services at his age in today’s NFL—it is unlikely that he will ever be as great...

AFC North: July stock watch

Cincinnati Bengals, FLAT: The Bengals, like the Steelers, have all the appearances of a well-rounded football team. The only difference is that Cincinnati is also better rounded when it comes to age. If Andy Dalton makes the leap from "solid" to joining quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco in the second tier, the Bengals could surprise a lot of people with...
