MINNEAPOLIS Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson suffered a major knee injury last week, but he was able to share a laugh with fans following his surgery.Peterson posted a picture on his Twitter account (@AdrianPeterson) of himself in his hospital bed, with a New Year's hat, a noisemaker and a pint of ice cream. He said: "My time bringing in the New Year was great! Thanks to family & a lil Blue Bell country ice cream."Peterson tore his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee on Dec. 24 against the Washington Redskins. The injury occurred when Peterson was hit in the knee on a tackle by Redskins safety DeJon Gomes early in the second half of Minnesota's 33-26 win.The Vikings said Peterson's surgery to repair the ligaments was successful, but it remains to be seen how the injury will affect Peterson's career. An aggressive runner, Peterson finished the 2011 season his fifth year in the league with 970 rushing yards. Earlier this year, Peterson signed a seven-year, 100 million contract extension. He finished with over 1,200 yards in each of his first your seasons. He played in just 12 games in 2011 with multiple injuries.
