AP Pro32 comments about Jets

Associated Press  |  Last updated September 04, 2012
Comments on the New York Jets by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses): --- NEW YORK JETS (19) Chris Berman (ESPN, 15) - Beauty of Week 1; either 0-4 Jets or 0-4 Bills will be 1-0 and quiet folks down. Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 22) - Not enough playmakers to think offensive issues won't continue during regular season. Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 14) - Defense should be even better, just need a little help from offense. Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 15) - Not a ton of talent on offense at the skill positions ... Fact! Bob Glauber (Newsday, 17) - Zero touchdowns for first-team offense in preseason has Jets' fans worried, but not Rex Ryan. Don't think they'll be as bad as others expect. Don't think they'll be good enough for playoffs, though. Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 17) - Jets tailgaters will be chanting ''Tebow,Tebow'' in parking lot before home opener Sunday against Buffalo. Mark Sanchez doesn't stand a chance. Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 21) - Forget Tebow-Sanchez, could be defense-offense war if Jets can't find end zone. Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 16) - Rex Ryan still yapping, but it won't be long before one of NFL's better defenses is giving a moribund attack the silent treatment. Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 21) - More they play around with Tim Tebow and Sanchez, less I like where they're headed. Sanchez was No. 5 in NFL last year in red zone TD passes. Why disrupt that with wildcat? John Lynch (Fox Sports, 22) - Team with leadership and chemistry issues, but we forget it's team that has won lots of football games since Rex Ryan arrived. You have to score to win and that appears a major struggle now. Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 22) - Jets had better hope gimmick packages new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano didn't unveil during preseason can provide punch for unit that failed to score touchdown in 30 combined drives under Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow. Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 21) - Looks like defense is going to have to be awfully good to offset shortcomings of offense. --- Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL
