AP source: Moss agrees to 49ers deal

Associated Press  |  Last updated March 12, 2012
A person with knowledge of the negotiations says Randy Moss is back in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN first reported the move by the 49ers, who also have been mentioned in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. Moss agreed to a one-year deal Monday with the reigning NFC West champions, according to a person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the club had yet to make a formal announcement. The 35-year-old Moss worked out with the 49ers earlier in the day with former NFL quarterback and current coach Jim Harbaugh participating. Moss dazzled in a stellar workout with the New Orleans Saints last Tuesday, running about 45 routes and looking "like the old Randy," according to witnesses at the workout, FOX Sports reported. He also ran a 40-yard dash in between 4.39 and 4.44 seconds, exceeding expectations, sources told sportsNOLA.com. Moss made the Pro Bowl seven times in his career but his work ethic and sometimes lackadaisical play frustrated coaches. He retired after finding himself without a team following a dismal 2010 season with the Patriots, Vikings and Titans. Moss was an impact wide receiver as recently as 2009, when he made 83 catches for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns in New England.
