The Patriots defense - particularly the secondary - struggled mightily to start the 2012 season. The Patriots then made an uncharacteristic trade at the NFL trade deadline, sending a third round pick to the Buccaneers for Aqib Talib. Things started to turn around after that as, under the radar, the Patriots defense turned into one of the better units around the league after that trade.
Of course, it was only a rental as Talib's deal expired after the reason. There was a big question as to whether or not they would bring him back, and it appears as if they'll be giving him one more year.
