Are Cowboys & Eagles Both Trade Targeting Same LB?
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

ARLINGTON - So many of the puzzle pieces fit, and fit so snugly, that we are prepared to consider just how good Denver Broncos linebacker Josey Jewell might look in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.

Oh, and with the NFL trade deadline upon us come Tuesday, we are also prepared to consider just how good Jewell might look in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform as well.

That's right: We are eyeballing the idea of a Cowboys vs. Eagles off-ball linebacker tug-of-war.

What are the puzzle pieces that fit? Let's count 'em down ...

1- Sources tell CowboysSI.com that Dallas is shopping and is making calls, with the emphasis on defensive help.

2- Ed Kracz, the long-time Eagles beat writer, has suggested a Philly connection with Jewell, who is 29 and in the last year of a contract, making him a sensible rental for the very active Eagles front office.

3- The Cowboys are short at the position due to Leighton Vander Esch being on IR. Jewell is a "play-calling linebacker'' (as is Vander Esch.) ... maybe creating a smooth transition.

4- The Denver Broncos, no matter what they are leaking to the media, are sellers.

5- Jewell, a 2018 fourth-round pick, has been a consistent starter in Denver ... and an affordable one. His cap number for this year is about $7 million; prorated out, that can work in Dallas.

If there is a bidding war here? For the loser (Dallas or Philly or Buffalo or any other suitor), Denver and Carolina and Tennessee and other "sellers'' might offer other opportunities. But surely Cowboys Nation would enjoy seeing Dallas "beat'' the Eagles in this department ... thus helping to beat the defending NFC champs when the two NFC East rivals square off twice in the coming weeks.
