It may not be in his best interests, but 2010′s leading rusher, Arian Foster, has no plans of holding out. Foster, who has earned much respect around the NFL for playing most of last season with a torn meniscus (and hid it from his coaches to prevent losing his job), has instead opted to sign his tender for the NFL’s third-year minimum, $525,000.
Again, this isn’t in Foster’s best interests. The team gets the benefit of retaining Foster for league minimum, a rare luxury in a league where player hold outs are increasingly common. But if Foster is injured or performs poorly in 2011, he has no insurance to protect him. Running backs are always at risk for serious injury, something Foster, who played last season with a torn meniscus, should know better than anyone.
His loyalty to the Texans and decision to avoid missing any time with the team is admirable. But there are times when players should look out for their own best interests — this is one of those times.
