As someone who spent many years as a vegetarian and who still doesn’t eat the flesh of land animals, I’ve long respected vegans, if only because I can’t imagine having the willpower to eliminate cheese from my diet. I’ve known plenty of vegans who report feeling healthier as a result of eschewing animal products. They’ve done their research and have identified vegan-friendly sources of protein, vitamin B12, and other nutrients that most people get from meat and dairy products. Still, anyone I know who has mentioned, even in passing, that he or she is a vegan (or even just a vegetarian), has been served a litany of questions about whether a vegan diet is healthy or natural, where vegans find protein, whether vegans always feel tired, the morality of eating animals, and whether God intended for people to eat meat. Arian Foster of the Houston Texans, who has won a rushing title and gone to two Pro Bowls, and who will surely be a hot commodity in your fantasy draft, is a vegan. Last ni...

Houston Texans Vs. Minnesota Vikings Preseason Game Preview

The final preseason game of the year for the Houston Texans probably has little public appeal. Tonight’s game at home against the Minnesota Vikings will almost exclusively feature the team’s backup players and those fighting for a spot on the final 53-man roster. The starters will not see any of the field as they rest and prepare for their regular season opener in Miami against...

Gary Kubiak says Andre Johnson is fine

Getty Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told the media that wide receiver Andre Johnson should be just fine after getting the wind knocked out of him during last week’s preseason game. “He’s back getting treatments and doing some stuff like that,” said Kubiak per HoustonTexans.com.  “So we thought that was extremely important right now. As I said, Tim (Jamison) was...

Houston Texans Final 53 Man Roster Prediction

Thursday will be the Houston Texans’ final preseason contest, which will primarily feature reserve players as the first-teamers rest and prepare for the regular season opener. Looming just past Thursday’s game is Friday’s cuts when the Texans will release the remaining lot of players to get under the 53-man roster requirement. The Texans are currently at 75 players on...

Fantasy Football Pre-Season Top 20: Running Backs

Depending on your league's scoring settings, Running Back can be the most important position.  This value, combined with the increasing use of the platoon system makes it increasingly more difficult to identify a true lead back.  It makes them even more valuable on draft day too, because there are so few of them.   1. Arian Foster Foster was largely unknown...

Houston Texans Position Battles at Right Tackle, Kicker Finally Over

It didn’t quite take the entire preseason as many expected, but the Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak and his staff has finally made decisions on their starting right tackle and kicker for the upcoming 2012 NFL season. RT Derek Newton will be the final starter along the O-line while veteran K Shayne Graham wins the position battle by default following the news that rookie...

Derek Newton wins Texans’ right tackle job

The Texans have had one of the best offensive lines in the league over the past few years, both in run blocking and pass protection, thanks, in large part, to their scheme and continuity. The scheme is still there, the famous Gary Kubiak zone blocking scheme brought over from Mike Shanahan and the Denver Broncos, where Kubiak was an offensive coordinator from 1995-2005, helping Shanahan...

The Pogs: New Orleans Edition

NEW ORLEANS – The third pre-season game against the perennial NFC power New Orleans Saints featured the starters through the entire first half.  It was a matchup that most considered a major test for the Texans’ pass rush and secondary.  However, prior to the game, Wade Phillips made it known there would be no blitzing and the defense would operate in its base “vanilla”...
