The Arizona Cardinals had no answer for Adrian Peterson.

Minnesota's star running back ran for a game-high 153 yards and a touchdown and the Vikings' defense sacked John Skelton seven times to lead Minnesota to a 21-14 triumph over the Cardinals Sunday afternoon at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

The loss was Arizona's third in a row and dropped them to 4-3 on the season. The victory lifted the Vikings to 5-2.

The setback overshadowed some fine performances by the Red Birds. LaRod Stephens-Howling rushed for a season-high 104 yards and a touchdown. It was the first time an Arizona running back gained over 100 yards on the ground this year. Stephens-Howling added four catches for 45 yards in a truly superb effort.

Andre Roberts had seven receptions for 103 yards and a TD while Skelton, despite the heavy Vikings pass rush, completed 25 of 36 passes for 262 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception. Arizona quarterbacks have now been sacked 29 times in their last four games.

The Cardinals defense held second-year quarterback Christian Ponder to just 58 yards passing, a season-best feat. They intercepted Ponder twice and sacked him three times (Daryl Washington (2) and Nick Eason (1)).

The Vikings did a nice job holding Larry Fitzgerald to four catches and just 29 yards.
