The Arizona Cardinals have signed free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby to a one-year contract, the team has announced.
Dansby will return to the Cardinals, as the veteran spent the first part of his career in Arizona before joining the Miami Dolphins. He was released by the Dolphins earlier this offseason, and there were several teams that expressed interest in him, but he remained unsigned through early free agency and the NFL Draft.
Pro Football Talk speculates that the Cardinals level of interest in reuniting with Dansby could have been piqued by the recent arrest of linebacker Daryl Washington. Before the arrest, Washington was already set to miss the first four games of the regular season after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
While it took him a while to sign, Dansby would appear to be a good candidate to continue his level of productivity. He compiled 134 tackles last season, and has proven a durable player over his nine seasons in the league.
Beyond the Cardinals, the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals were both tied to Dansby this offseason.
