Kevin Kolb Will be Motivated For This Game

In Arizona, Coach Ken Wisenhunt has named John Skelton the starter for Thursday’s game against the Titans. This is after quarterback Kevin Kolb looked awful in a game against the Raiders. Kolb looked so bad it promoted a member of the Raiders defense to call him out.

Oakland’s Tommy Kelly sacked him in the end zone for a safety and after the game had some tough criticism for the signal caller.

He is skittish. He is scared back there,” Kelly said. “Anytime anybody gets close to him he starts looking at the refs. As a defensive lineman you love a quarterback like that. He ain’t even trying to look at the routes no more. He is paying attention to us and you ain’t going to get nothing done like that.”

Kolb has since commented about the statements made by Kelly, but the big picture is that members of the Cardinals did not stand up for their quarterback which could be why Skelton is starting the game against the Titans.

Like the Cardinals, the Titans had some quarterback questions, but that has been cleared up as the team named a starter. Jake Locker has been named the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, the team confirmed Monday. Head coach Mike Munchak said Monday Locker will play 40 to 50 snaps Thursday night vs. Arizona and take the majority of reps in practice going forward. Locker still has plenty of work to do and looked dismal in his last outing finishing 4-11 on the day with an interception.

Generally in the third preseason game the teams play the starters longer than usual as the last real walk-through before the regular season. This game means more to Arizona and look for an inspired effort from the Cardinals.Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Offensive tackle Levi Brown is out, but both D’Anthony Batiste and D.J. Young are ready to fill in. Kevin Kolb is out to prove that he deserves a look as starter and will want to impress after an embarrassing outing against Raiders. This will provide inspired play late in the game which will fall into the favor of the Cardinals.

Matt Hasselbeck will back up Locker, but since the Titans have already named Locker the starter, the motivation to perform will be gone. This line has already moved from 3.5 to 4.5 in some places due to the quarterback controversy, but that will be exactly what motivates the Cardinals to play well in this game.

Take the Cardinals and the points in this preseason game.

Warner: Kevin Kolb “not letting the ball go”

Kurt Warner was very successful as starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals from 2005 to 2009. Kevin Kolb, the man brought in from Philadelphia to be the next franchise quarterback, has not fared as well. The comparison is not even close. The Oakland Raiders’ Tommy Kelly wasn’t shy about expressing his views on Kevin Kolb earlier this week. Today, Warner sounded off regarding...

Titans release veteran DT Shaun Smith

The Tennessee Titans have released veteran defensive tackle Shaun Smith a year after signing him to boost their defense. The Titans signed Smith in July 2011 hoping to bring his experience and size to the defense. But Smith started only six of 15 games last season with 44 tackles and one sack, and the Titans have picked four tackles in the past two drafts. Smith lost weight this...

Titans name Jake Locker starting quarterback

Despite a spotty performance in his first preseason start this year, Jake Locker was named the Titans' starting quarterback for the 2012 season. In announcing that Locker had won the job over Matt Hasselbeck, 36, the team's starter last season, head coach Mike Munchak told reporters on Monday afternoon that "This is the best thing for the team for the whole season,...

Fantasy Football: Is Chris Johnson Back?

There weren’t many more disappointing players last year than Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. Not only did he prove that the CJ2K moniker can go away, he barely mustered up enough rushing yards (1047) to even be called CJ1K. While I don’t see a 2009 repeat, can he return to 2008 or 2010 form?.  Besides his career low rushing number, which was somewhat offset by...

Time running out in Cardinals' position battles

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Almost two years ago to the day, Matt Leinart went to Tennessee as the Cardinals starting quarterback and returned as its backup. Kevin Kolb might already have lost his starters role to John Skelton, but it should become obvious after Thursdays game in Nashville, even if coach Ken Whisenhunt doesnt make the announcement for another week. In that previous quarterback...

Breaking Down the Schedule: Week Eleven vs Arizona

Welcome back to the latest installment of BDTS. After traveling to face the Saints in the Super Dome, the Falcons return home to the Georgia Dome to face the floundering Cardinals under Ken Whisenhunt and at this point QB John Skelton. The Cardinals are actually a pretty decent team, that is if you completely ignore their QB and OL situations. It seems head coach Ken Whisenhunt&...

Short suspension for Titans’ Kenny Britt?

Kenny Britt has been arrested 8 times in his NFL career thus far, after going in the 1st round in 2009. He would have been suspended last season if it hasn’t been for Roger Goodell’s decision to excuse any arrests that happened during the lockout, during which Britt was arrested 3 times. However, after a recent DUI, Britt is expecting a suspension after a 2nd visit to the commissioner’s...

Titans starting Jake Locker over Hasselbeck is the right thing to do

Allowing QB Jake Locker to start over the aging Matt Hasselbeck is the right thing to do. The Titans have a young group of skill players that need to gel together to grow and now that they know who their leader is they will only get better from here. According to reports from Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, owner Bud Adams has stepped up and said “that’s my man.” If Hasselbeck...

Locker named Titans Starting QB

After weeks of speculation about who the Tennessee Titans would pick as their starting QB, a decision has finally been made. Earlier today  reports came out that Head Coach Mike Munchak picked Jake Locker to start the team’s September 9th opener against the New England Patriots. Locker was in a battle with veteran Matt Hasselbeck,  since the beginning of Training Camp in...

Titans name Locker starting quarterback

The Tennessee Titans had hoped that Jake Locker would make the decision easy for them, but when that didn't happen based on onfield performance, the Titans made the difficult call to unseat veteran Matt Hasselbeck and had the keys to the offense to Locker. The Titans open the regular season Sept. 9 against the New England Patriots. Locker was the Titans' first-round pick...

Locker wins Titans job

Jake Locker will start the 2012-2013 season as the Titans starting QB, indicating that Tennessee is clearly focused on building for the future. Locker has not been impressive this preseason and shouldn’t be owned in anything but ultra deep leagues. Nate Washington figures to be Locker’s top target, and has good value in the later rounds of drafts. With Kenny Britt in and out...
