Kevin Kolb Will be Motivated For This Game

In Arizona, Coach Ken Wisenhunt has named John Skelton the starter for Thursday’s game against the Titans. This is after quarterback Kevin Kolb looked awful in a game against the Raiders. Kolb looked so bad it promoted a member of the Raiders defense to call him out.

Oakland’s Tommy Kelly sacked him in the end zone for a safety and after the game had some tough criticism for the signal caller.

He is skittish. He is scared back there,” Kelly said. “Anytime anybody gets close to him he starts looking at the refs. As a defensive lineman you love a quarterback like that. He ain’t even trying to look at the routes no more. He is paying attention to us and you ain’t going to get nothing done like that.”

Kolb has since commented about the statements made by Kelly, but the big picture is that members of the Cardinals did not stand up for their quarterback which could be why Skelton is starting the game against the Titans.

Like the Cardinals, the Titans had some quarterback questions, but that has been cleared up as the team named a starter. Jake Locker has been named the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, the team confirmed Monday. Head coach Mike Munchak said Monday Locker will play 40 to 50 snaps Thursday night vs. Arizona and take the majority of reps in practice going forward. Locker still has plenty of work to do and looked dismal in his last outing finishing 4-11 on the day with an interception.

Generally in the third preseason game the teams play the starters longer than usual as the last real walk-through before the regular season. This game means more to Arizona and look for an inspired effort from the Cardinals.Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Offensive tackle Levi Brown is out, but both D’Anthony Batiste and D.J. Young are ready to fill in. Kevin Kolb is out to prove that he deserves a look as starter and will want to impress after an embarrassing outing against Raiders. This will provide inspired play late in the game which will fall into the favor of the Cardinals.

Matt Hasselbeck will back up Locker, but since the Titans have already named Locker the starter, the motivation to perform will be gone. This line has already moved from 3.5 to 4.5 in some places due to the quarterback controversy, but that will be exactly what motivates the Cardinals to play well in this game.

Take the Cardinals and the points in this preseason game.
