The Minnesota Vikings acquired cornerback A.J. Jefferson from the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday for a conditional draft pick in 2013. In bringing in the 24-year-old Jefferson, the Vikings continued their approach of adding youthful depth to a rebuilding roster. Cornerback was an area of concern for the coaching staff with Antoine Winfield entering his 14th season and missed the final 10 games of last season due to injury while Chris Cook has struggled with injuries and off-the-field issues in his first two years in Minnesota. Jefferson was the odd man out in a crowd at cornerback for Arizona. Signed as an undrafted rookie out of Fresno State in 2010, he played in all 16 games last season, the first seven as a starter. He had 67 tackles, 59 solo, with one interception. The Vikings also claimed offensive lineman Mark Asper off waivers from the Bills and waived offensive lineman Pat Brown and cornerback Zack Bowman. Brown played his first three seasons with the Vikings, seeing limited action in 2011. Bowman was brought in to compete for playing time but was underwhelming during the preseason. The Vikings also signed four players to their practice squad on Saturday - running back Jordan Todman, offensive lineman Tyler Holmes, defensive lineman Chase Baker and defensive back Bobby Felder.

Arizona Cardinals: John Skelton Is The Answer At Quarterback

Last year, a team started the season with high hopes. They believed the quarterback which they had acquired via trade and given a lucrative extension to was the answer, while a project QB sat on the bench. Then they got off to a very poor start, and had to put their project in as the starter. Lo and behold, they actually started winning! They wound up finishing 8-8, but that was a big...

Kevin Kolb took not winning starting job in Arizona ‘like a pro’

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on Friday that John Skelton had beaten out Kevin Kolb for the Cardinals’ starting quarterback job for Week 1. While both players never really distanced themselves from the other during the competition, Whisenhunt had to choose one of them. So while Skelton can now move forward and readying himself for the regular season opener...

Minnesota Vikings Drop Preseason Finale to Houston Texans

The Minnesota Vikings wrapped up their preseason last night with a loss to the Houston Texans 28-24  at Reliant Stadium.  The Vikings finished 1-3 as they enter the regular season. The Vikings did not start any of their regulars as Joe Webb started the game as he passed 4/7 for 47 yards.  Webb was in for two drives and set them up for two field goals.  Vikings' running...

QUICK SPIN: Skelton Wins Cardinals Starting QB Jobf

Sometimes you just have to admit that you messed up. That is what the Cardinals are doing. I must admit that I was wrong when in the offseason I said Kevin Kolb wasn't getting a fair shake from the media. I thought he had more in him, apparently not. John Skelton has been awarded the starting QB spot and he earned it more through his leadership and moxie than through great...

NFL Rumors: Adrian Peterson Expected To Play In Vikings Season Opener Despite Being A Game Time Decision

With numerous NFL rumors swirling regarding possible roster cuts and trades taking place over the next few days, the Minnesota Vikings are only concerned with players who are guaranteed a spot to start the 2012 regular season, and whether or not they are healthy. More specifically, they are most concerned about the health and availability of one Adrian Peterson. After having surgery...

John Skelton named starting QB in Arizona

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has named John Skelton as his starting quarterback to begin the 2012 season, opting to go with the third year signal caller from Fordham University instead of Kevin Kolb. Although Kolb is set to make as much money as Aaron Rodgers this season, Whisenhunt decided that Skelton gives his team the best chance to win. “We put a lot of time and effort in making...

Vikings add Asper, cut Brown, Bowman

After trimming back to 53 players Friday night, the Minnesota Vikings continued to put the finishing touches on their regular-season roster Saturday. The biggest move was the completion of a trade first reported Friday night: The Vikings acquired third-year cornerback A.J. Jefferson from the Arizona Cardinals for what is reported to be undisclosed draft picks. Jefferson, who went...

Roster spots were on the line against Texans

The Minnesota Vikings ended the preseason Thursday with a 28-24 loss to the Houston Texans, unable to gain any momentum team-wise while finishing the preseason with a 1-3 record. But this preseason hasnt been about a record; its been about the development and evaluation of a very young roster. A look at how the team graded out with its backups on the field in the final rehearsal...

Fake Adrian Peterson stars in Fantasy Draft 'Call Me Maybe' video parody

As if we needed another parody of Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me, Maybe," here comes another video version of the pop tune titled "Draft Me, Maybe."  This version of Canada's most annoying musical export since that Celine Dion "Titanic" song centers on what is hopefully the last area of sports that can be parodied — the NFL Fantasy Draft and...

49ers to add OLB Clark Haggans pending physical

According to Matt Barrows the 49ers are going to sign former Cardinals and Steelers defender Clark Haggans. Haggans was released on Friday and will sign with the team Sunday pending a physical. Currently the 49ers have only three outside linebackers, so adding Haggans will give them some more depth on the line and give Brooks, Haralson and Aldon Smith rest from time to time. Haggans...

PJD's Preseason Game Four Recap: Why Did I Watch That?

THAT WAS AWFUL: If we're being honest, I don't know if I've sat through a worse game than the Vikings game last night, which they LOST anyway, 24-28. Really. And the worst part was that I DID actually sit through and watch most of it. The whole first half. Parts of the third, and really most of the fourth. During the last preseason game of the year. Without a single alcoholic...
