Minnesota Vikings cornerback Asher Allen has retired from football. Coach Leslie Frazier announced on Wednesday that the fourth-year cornerback came into his office last week and told Frazier of his decision. Frazier says he was surprised, but did not get into the specifics of their discussion. Allen started nine games and appeared in 12 last year, but missed some time due to a concussion and a shoulder injury. Frazier says the decision was not related to injuries. Allen was a third-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2009. He started 11 games in 2010, but struggled last season as part of the Vikings' banged-up secondary. He had four interceptions in his career. The Associated Press left a message with Allen and his agent seeking comment.
