From college teams to the pros and from players to coaches, the sports world honored the victims of the Newtown, CT shooting with a variety on-field and on-court fashion tributes. Cleats, helmets and jerseys featured victims names, green ribbons, and “S.H.E.S” decals and patches in remembrance of those who were fatally shot in the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Chris Johnson’s footwear was a large part of the story during last night’s Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets. The Tennessee Titans RB was one of many players in the league to utilize his gametime fashion as a tribute to the lives lost. Handwritten on his Nikes were the names of all 26 Newtown, CT shooting victims. While Johnson’s personalized cleats would typically be deemed an NFL fashion violation, the league supported this week’s special touch.
Johnson’s shoes, as well as additional uniform-related tributes across the sports spectrum, were just a small gesture to show the victims’ families and residents of Newtown, CT that they are in everyone’s thoughts and prayers from the football field and well beyond.
