The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is one part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player (rookies don’t count) for the 2013 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Atlanta Falcons, that player is center Peter Konz. Konz was one of the better center prospects I’ve scouted, a 3 year starter at the offensive line factory that is the University of Wisconsin and a big time road grader at 6-5 315, with the balance and technique to excel inside despite his height. Konz also had 33 inch arms and help up in pass protection one on one when asked. Centers rarely go in the 1st round, but Konz had a chance to. An ankle injury sustained late in the season dropped him into the 2nd round, where the Falcons took him 53rd overall, which I thought was an excellent pick. Despite giving up their 1st rounder the year ...

Did the Atlanta Falcons do enough this offseason to get to the next level?

The Atlanta Falcons have spent the offseason looking back to last year and wondering what happened and what could have been.  They almost made it to the promised land as they were rolling along up 17 points early in the NFC Championship and 10 points at the half, but then the doors were slammed shut in the second half that was all they would score as they lost the game 28-24 to...

Things are working out for Osi Umenyiora, Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are feeling good about signing former Giants DE Osi Umenyiora. “Osi fit in right away,” DT Jonathan Babineaux said recently, told the Albany Herald.  “He has an outgoing personality.  You can talk to him about just about anything.  As each day goes by, I think he’s getting more and more comfortable.” “John Abraham was a hell of a player, and...

Steven Jackson’s fantasy value in 2013: A big tease?

For the past three seasons, Steven Jackson has been one of the biggest teases in fantasy football. He’s a player with the talent to be a top five running back, but played on one of the worst football teams in the NFL for most of his career that severely diminished his value. Jackson may have had eight straight 1,000 yard seasons, but he never had a double-digit touchdown season...

DE Umenyiora prepared to fill need for Falcons

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. It happens with every NFL franchise, and it happened with the New York Giants and Osi Umenyiora. The NFLs hard salary cap and the fleeting nature of careers mean that teams are constantly drafting and developing talent to replace their higher-priced veterans even if those veterans are Pro-Bowlers who have helped your team to win the Super Bowl multiple times...

Falcons will continue to monitor Richard Seymour

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff told Mike Florio on PFT Live that they’re going to continue to monitor free agent defensive lineman Richard Seymour as we get closer to training camp. It sounds like the Falcons want to see what their younger guys can do before they sign a veteran like Seymour. They could certainly use a player with Seymour’s experience.  One...
