The Atlanta Falcons came off their bye in week 7 with more critics than plaudits. Three straight narrow victories had the naysayers doubting Atlanta’s elite status. Heading into their game at Philadelphia two weeks ago, the people who write about American football professionally foretold how it would be the Eagles who would shred the wings of the mighty Falcons. 30 -17 Atlanta. This week, many thought it would be the Cowboys who would coral the high flyers and bring them crashing back to Earth. 19-13 Atlanta. The Falcons have all but assured the NFC South title and now that we have passed the halfway point, their sights will be focused on a first round bye. But with eight games gone, a look at Atlanta’s schedule gives a glimpse of something else entirely; perfection. Admittedly, the New York Giants are week 14 opponents, but beside their current 6-3 record, the next best team (record wise) is the 4-4 Detroit Lions. The Falcons have been chastised for succeeding off a lenient slate of opponents, but as any Falcon will tell you; who gives a damn? Make no mistake however, while the records of their next eight opponents might yell out victory, hold off placing your bets. Atlanta still has to face the Saints twice and Buccaneers twice as well as travel to Charlotte. These divisional games will prove key to Atlanta success in the post season as their NFC South rivals are not the sum of their records. They are still dangerous and could prove happy spoilers should the Falcons step off the gas or underestimate them. But the fact remains that in 2012, perfection is still attainable, and the Falcons aren’t looking to get beat anytime soon. var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
