The Atlanta Falcons have a few more years in their current stadium, the Georgia Dome, as the Georgia state agency approved the terms for a new $1 billion stadium for the team which would replace the Georgia Dome.According to Yahoo Sports, the stadium would be partly financed by $300 million in revenue from a hotel tax. The stadium will also be backed by new bonds backed by revenue by the city's hotel tax of 8 percent, according to Jennifer LeMaster, a spokeswoman for the agency."The bonds will likely be issued in about a year," LeMaster went on to say.The Falcons will pay for the remainder of the cost of the new stadium, which will include a retractable roof. The hope is that the new stadium will be ready for the team and fans for the start of the 2017 NFL season. The Falcons requested that the stadium to be an open-air stadium and have more control over management of the facility, LeMaster explained. The REAL REASON why the stadium is being built is so that the Falcons remain in Atlanta. The new stadium will seat around 80,000 people and also will (hopefully) encourage the NFL to hold a Super Bowl in Atlanta, once again."We're interested in a deal because our lease with the team is up in about four year," LeMaster said. "We don't want our team to be free agents."The deal is still contingent on the Georgia legislature increasing the bonding capacity of the World Congress Center Authority from it's current $200 million to $300 million, LeMaster explained.
