During the mid-1960s, the city of Atlanta had become fertile ground for professional sports franchises. A new multi-purpose stadium was going up, and the city had already become successful in getting a Major League Baseball team to move to the Deep South for the first time.
Football would be next.
NBC had just inked a contract to air American Football League games but was not happy about the Denver market being one of the franchises. The Broncos were the weakest link at the time and the network suggested the franchise would be better served in the Atlanta market.
That did not hap...

Falcons to Cut Dunta Robinson?
There’s no question that cornerback Dunta Robinson has been a free agent bust for the Atlanta Falcons. Since he was brought in during the 2010 offseason, he’s been anything but a shutdown corner.
I’m sure the Falcons would love to cut bait and move on from Robinson, but the problem is that Robinson will make a base salary of $6 million for the 2012 season. Of the $6...
Free Agent Focus: Wide Receiver
Harry Douglas The Falcons will have to make a decision on whether to keep or let Harry Douglas go in free agency. And you could make the case for either happening. The Falcons are expected to install a vertical offense under Dirk Koetter. And playing the vertical game is really not a strength of Douglas. He’ll make the occasional play down the field, but his bread and butter...
State of The Franchise – The Quarterbacks
This is the 2nd post in the State of The Franchise that will run over the next few weeks. I reviewed the Falcons corners a week or so ago, in light of the news that Brent Grimes could be deemed expendable by the organisation. Today is the turn of the QB position.
Obviously this conversion begins by discussing current starter Matt Ryan. Despite having a lot of regular season success...
Tracking the Falcons 2012 Senior Bowl Interest
As has been the case in past years, we’ll be looking at which players have reportedly talked to the Atlanta Falcons during the week of practices for the Senior Bowl, a collegiate all-star game that will be played on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
Sources for this information, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Twitter.
CB Brandon Boykin, Georgia
TE Ladarius Green...

Not Even a Debate on Lofton (AP)
As the Atlanta Falcons approach the 2012 off-season, one of the most interesting points to follow is how much the Birds roster, which has been extremely stable the last four year, will change. Those very few changes made a lot of sense when the Falcons were believed to be “right on the cusp of greatness.” But...
Fullbacking Future
Is Ovie done in Atlanta? To be honest, when I wrote up the free agent focus article on the running back position, I completely ignored the fullback position. It was an error on my part because it’s a position that is often overlooked, but in the case of the Falcons it certainly will be worth watching this off-season.
New offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter by many accounts prefers...
Talks Continue On New Falcons Stadium
Eleven months ago, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority and the Atlanta Falcons agreed to enter negotiations about a potential new open-air football stadium downtown. They're still negotiating, both parties say. A possible sign of movement came earlier this month, when Gov. Nathan Deal included money in his 2012 budget to purchase property next to the proposed stadium...

FAIRHOPE, Ala
– Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin had a strong first practice for the South team. He drew praise for Redskins defensive back coach Raheem Morris after breaking up one pass.
“Nice job Boykin, way to get down hill,” Morris said.
