Last week: 2 (+0) Record: 4-0 Well, it wasn’t pretty, but the Falcons got their 4th win to become the NFL’s 3rd 4-0 team this season. Arizona is think is a complete fluke, but both Houston and Atlanta are for real and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see these two teams in the Super Bowl. Houston has the edge right now because none of their games have been really close. Plus, they have the yards per play differential edge and I think they’re more well rounded. Atlanta’s defense looked awfully leaky last week. That could eventually be their downfall. Studs RB Michael Turner: Rushed for 103 yards (52 after contact) on 13 carries, 11 broken tackles, allowed 1 quarterback hurry on 4 pass block snaps, caught 3 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown on 5 attempts, 1 drop WR Roddy White: Caught 8 passes for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 attempts on 49 pass snaps, 1.0 YAC per catch, 1 drop RE John Abraham: Allowed 1 sack and 3 quarterback hurries on 28 pass rush snaps, 3 solo tackles, 3 st...

Are the Falcons using too much nickel?

Through the first two weeks of the season, I was astounded by the amount of nickel defense the Falcons played. Their base defense which featured all three linebackers was only used on about a dozen plays out of about 150 combined plays. While it seemed to be paying dividends with their successful pass defense, it seemed detrimental against the run. Through two weeks the Falcons pass...

Ryan stirring MVP talk with best start of career

Matt Ryan keeps shrugging off any suggestion that he's trying to make up for his playoff failures. Whatever the case, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback has taken his game to a new level. A quarter of the way into the season, Ryan is the NFL's top-rated passer and a big reason the Falcons (4-0) have matched the best start in franchise history. True to his nature, Ryan dismisses...

Falcons Injury Report: Julio Jones Dealing with Hand Injury

While Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan completed 25 passes for 369 yards, wide receiver Julio Jones had only one catch for 30 yards Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. The team had an explanation for the receiver’s disappointing output, as offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter told reporters, including Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, that Jones is dealing with the effects of...

Video: Thomas DeCoud’s Cat Game is strong

Via Shutdown Corner, we get video of Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud pulling off an impressive Cat Game rendition from Super Troopers, with 14 “meows” during an interview on ESPN.  We can only assume that Dunta Robinson was standing nearby as the interview was taking place, keeping count, and informing DeCoud that he needed one more [...]

Matt Ryan's MVP Chances After Four Games

It might seem a little early to start talking about possible MVP's after only four games, but it is still fun to speculate. After the first four games of the season, Matt Ryan has led the Falcons to its first 4-0 start since the 1980's.  He is also the league leader in quarterback rating at an astounding 112.1.  He is second in the league with 11 touchdowns, trailing only...

Julio Jones says his hand is fine and he’s ready to go

There was a report that the hand of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones affected his play last week against the Panthers. Jones told AtlantaFalcons.com that there’s nothing holding him back and his hand is just fine after suffering a laceration during their week 3 win over the Chargers. “Oh, yeah. I’m fine,” Jones said. “I’m ready to go.”

Keys for the Redskins to Upset the Falcons

The Redskins will host the Falcons at 1:00 PM on Sunday and look to hand Atlanta their first loss on the season. Redskins Nation knows that the key match-up of this game is going to be Matt Ryan and the explosive Falcon offense vs. the Redskins defense, and in particular the secondary. There is little doubt that Atlanta is going to put points on the board so more than likely,...

Atlanta Falcons Perched Comfortably Atop The NFC South

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is delivering on his potential this season. I’m still reeling from the amazing finish to the Falcons/Panthers game on Sunday. With mere seconds left and all the way at their own 2 yard line, the Falcons, or shall I say Matt Ryan and Roddy White with a little help from Matt Bryant’s leg, pulled off the kind of thing that makes last year’s non...
