Roddy White: I want to catch passes

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White doesn't seem to be too happy with his current role on a team that he's suited up for since the start of the 2005 season. The franchise's all-time leading receiver had this to say following his two-catch performance against the Houston Texans on Sunday:

"For me, at the end of the day, I want to catch passes. I'm not out here just f***ing around just to sit around to just block f***ing people all day. It's not what I want to do."

While we wait for certain ESPN personalities to crack on White for not wanting to block, much like they did with Jimmy Graham on Monday, the frustration is understandable. Through four games, White has been targeted a total of 13 times, coming away with six catches for 92 yards.

While the soon-to-be 34-year-old receiver has shown some deteriorating skills in recent seasons, it's not like he's fallen back on the Falcons depth chart under first-year head coach Dan Quinn. In fact, White has played 17 more snaps than No. 1 receiver Julio Jones.

In Kyle Shanahan's offense, the importance of receivers blocking is well known. It's something White had to understand heading into the season. It's also something he doesn't necessarily have to be happy with.

"I've contributed to offenses for this franchise for the last nine, 10 years," White continued. "It always bothers me when I go out and don't catch any balls in a game because it hasn't happened in so long."

Currently on pace to put up 24 receptions this season, White hasn't tallied less than 60 catches in any of the seven seasons prior to 2015. Though, the veteran may have to swallow his pride. After all, the Falcons are having a tremendous amount of success with what they are doing on offense.

Through four games, Atlanta ranks third in the NFL in points at 34.2 per game and fifth in total offense at over 400 yards per outing. White now needs to decide whether a 4-0 start and potential conference championship is worth him taking a back seat in the passing game.
