It was brought to my attention this morning that the hosts of Mayhem in the A.M. on 790 The Zone in Atlanta decided to make fun of former Saints safety Steve Gleason since he wrote this week’s Monday Morning Quarterback on SI.com for Peter King. Gleason can no longer talk since he’s dying from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” Below is a description of the disease. ALS Is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Gleason can no longer talk and is confined to a wheelchair because of his ALS and is able to speak by looking at a special computer and using his eyes.  The computer than reads his eyes and speaks for him. Former Saints linebacker Scott Fujita posted the following tweet. I'm going to reserve judgement until I hear this morning's playback from @790TheZone. But right now I'm enraged. http://t.co/39KYxJMZFo — Scott Fujita (@sfujita55) June 17, 2013 Below is a summary of what happened on the show from a fan forum called Tiger Droppings. Just had a whole segment making fun of Steve Gleason and him talking through a computer. The arse clowns from Mayhem in the AM did this 3 minute joke where they pretended that Steve Gleason called in and they asked him questions. Most of his responses were in the form of a knock knock joke and at one point he says he doesn’t know if he will be alive next Thursday. Nick Cellini, one of the three hosts of the show apologized on Twitter. My apologies to everyone. It was a stupid attempt at humor that backfired. Emphasis on stupid. — Nick Cellini (@NickCellini) June 17, 2013 Cellini is clearly an idiot and doesn’t have any business being in radio.  You don’t make fun of a person who’s dying of ALS.   Need NFL Tickets? The post Atlanta radio station makes fun of Steve Gleason appeared first on Pro Football Zone.
