The Atlanta Falcons have a simple goal this week against Ndamukong Suh. They want to keep Detroit's high-strung defensive tackle from touching quarterback Matt Ryan. Each team complained about the other following Atlanta's seven-point victory last year in Detroit. Falcons center Todd McClure and receiver Roddy White said that Suh and left end Cliff Avril were taunting Ryan when the quarterback was briefly injured. Ryan returned to lead another scoring drive, but after the game Suh and linebacker Stephen Tulloch complained that Atlanta's offensive line used dirty techniques that could injure opponents. Going into their game on Saturday at Detroit, the Falcons (12-2) and Lions (4-10) seem unwilling to rehash the bitterness lingering from last season. Suh says ''it's a different year.'' McClure agreed, saying ''it's a different game.''

Falcons a win away from home-field advantage

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. The most quotable member of the Atlanta Falcons was trying not to say anything at all. But he couldn't help himself and failed. As the team's open locker room session with the media came to a close, wide receiver Roddy White left for a meeting and announced, "I'm not talking until after we win home-field advantage." Enough said. With...

Atlanta Falcons: Five Things On Their Holiday Wish List

HO HO HO! Merry Christmas everybody. This is the season for football, and what a marvelous season it has been so far. We have seen many things this 2012 season. It started with Bounty Gate and replacement refs, to field goals and touchdowns that weren't, to quarterback controversies, to the return of Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson (who both are top contenders for MVP and Comeback...

Falcons determined to avoid letdown against Lions

Thursday was an ugly, rainy day at Atlanta's practice facility - a perfect setting for the Falcons to be reminded they can make sure they don't play another game outdoors this season. That's added motivation to avoid a letdown in Saturday night's game at Detroit's Ford Field. The Falcons can secure home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs by beating the...

Burleson's future in Detroit appears secure

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Nate Burleson's broken leg was supposed to open the door for recent draft picks Titus Young and Ryan Broyles to establish themselves as the Detroit Lions top receivers behind Calvin Johnson. Burleson even conceded at the time that it could leave him as the odd-man out because hes due to make 10 million over the next two seasons. Two months later, things have...

Roddy White admits that the Falcons used to be scared of other teams

The Atlanta Falcons swagger captain is hands down, without a doubt veteran receiver Roddy White. White can thump his chest and talk trash with the best of them. He has every right to, to a certain degree as his team is 12-2. Boom. Right now they are the best in the business with only the AFC’s Houston Texans holding a similar record. So as is his nature, White is taking it upon...

Atlanta Falcons: Week 16 NFL Power Rankings (#3)

Last week: 4 (+1) Record: 12-2 Net points per drive: 0.71 (4th) DVOA: 11.7% (9th) Weighted DVOA: 7.3% (12th) Atlanta finally got that one signature win last week, blowing out the Giants, even though the Giants might not even make the playoffs now. You can question their talent all you want and I think they might be the least talented of the top-5 teams, but their home field advantage...

Roddy White says the Falcons use to be afraid to face certain teams

After the Falcons laid the smackdown on the Giants this past Sunday, Roddy White went on his normal Twitter rants about how people need to start giving the Falcons respect. He ignored they had just lost to the Panthers the week before, but I digress. The Falcons think it is personal, but it isn’t. In [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Hot girl loses Giants-Falcons bet, posts pics on Twitter

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!  Miss Erin Willett is craving your attention! Erin’s 10,000+ Twitter followers all became pseudo-Atlanta Falcons fans on Sunday after Erin, a 23 year old vascular technologist (uh?), lost a bet with a fellow tweeter.  The interwebs tell us that she doesn’t currently maintain celebrity status, but 10K is nothing to sneeze at (hot chicks have it easy). On...

Rice's record within reach for Megatron

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Calvin Johnson was 10 years old when Jerry Rice set the NFL record in 1995 for receiving yards in a season. Johnson says he's never met Rice, never talked to him and really hasn't gone back to study tape of the indisputable greatest receiver in football history. But with 182 yards in the Detroit Lions' final two games, Johnson will surpass Rice...

Dye: Schwartz deserves another season

ALLEN PARK, Mich. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went from 10-6 in 2010 to 4-12 last season. It got coach Raheem Morris fired. The Detroit Lions were 10-6 last year and are two more losses from also finishing 4-12. Will that get Jim Schwartz canned? In this day and age, whenever a team fails to live up to expectations, the demand for a coaching change is inevitable. Sometimes it'...

Falcons-Lions Preview

The Atlanta Falcons hope a strong finish to the regular season will help build enough momentum to avoid another early playoff exit. After earning a playoff spot last season, the reeling Detroit Lions are relegated to the role of spoilers this time. The visiting Falcons can clinch home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs by handing the Lions a seventh consecutive loss Saturday...

Detroit Lions: Week 16 NFL Power Rankings (#28)

Last week: 27 (-1) Record: 4-10 Net points per drive: -0.02 (15th) DVOA: -0.5% (14th) Weighted DVOA: -1.0% (16th) The Lions have had some bad luck with losing close, winnable games and having turnovers returned for touchdowns (they’ve had a ridiculous 10 turnovers/punts/kickoffs returned for touchdown this year), but they are the league’s most underachieving team this year and...
