Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff mentioned during an appearance on the NFL Network that they haven’t ruled out re-signing DE John Abraham.
“We never say never… there is a lot on the horizon,” said Dimitroff, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We have some decisions to make across the organization, but we never say never as far as acquiring or bringing people back.”
Since being release, Abraham has visited with the Seahawks, Patriots and Broncos this offseason, but overall interest in him appears to have cooled in recent weeks. Seattle has signed Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, so they can be ruled out, and recent reports have indicated the Broncos no longer have serious interest.
The Falcons could use another pass-rushing option to play opposite of Osi Umenyiora and Abraham was able to tally 10 sacks last season. The problem with this idea is the fact that Atlanta had $2.4 million in cap space, as of last this Wednesday, to work with.
We have Abraham listed as the No. 6 best available player in our recently updated Top 50 Free Agents list.
