Attorney: Saints safety Marcus Maye 'vehemently denies' allegation following aggravated assault arrest

The New Orleans Saints surprised many earlier this week when they shipped off starting DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles. With free agency acquisitions Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye joining the team's secondary this summer though, perhaps fans in the "Big Easy" felt the group could sustain the loss of Gardner-Johnson.

As of Thursday afternoon though, Maye's status for the quickly approaching season-opener and beyond could be coming into question.

Soon after news of the arrest broke, however, it was revealed that the 29-year-old former New York Jets player was disputing the charges.

Maye was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jets and spent the first five seasons of his career with the organization. The Florida product registered 46 tackles, two passes defended and 1.0 sack in six games last year before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 9.

After Maye's attorney released his statement, Underhill was able to obtain and tweet out the police report from the incident.
