Despite suffering multiple concussions over the course of his short NFL career, wide receiver Austin Collie doesn’t plan on retiring after being released this past week by the Colts. “I’m playing,’’ said Collie, per the Indy Star. “Right now, it would take a doctor to tell me, ‘You can’t play anymore.’ “I feel like this is a gift that I’ve been given, and personally I feel I should still be doing it. That’s just me.’’ It seems like Collie isn’t phased by the concussions he’s suffered so far in his career.  I’m sure at least one team will give him a chance this coming season, but if he can’t stay healthy, his career will soon be over.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })();

Indianapolis Colts: Comparing Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning, final version

Indianapolis Colts fans are fortunate, if early indications are a true preview of future returns. No matter which way you slice it, Andrew Luck’s rookie season outpaces that of the then-record setting rookie season by former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. And as I have stated all along, this has been with a smaller pool of talent than what Manning had his first go-around (mainly...

Buzz: Will Collie, Manning reunite in Denver?

On Friday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that free agents Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie will not be re-signed this offseason.  Because both players have connections to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, speculation as to where the two players would land started with Denver. Yesterday, Big Pete touched on the subject of going after Freeney, and has also brought up...

Dwight Freeney's post-Indianapolis options limited

With the announcement that Dwight Freeney won't be re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran defensive end will be heading into free agency for the first time. With just 12 tackles and five sacks last season, Freeney may have a difficult time finding work with agreeable pay. For Freeney, playing in a 4-3 defense is essential. He didn't fit in the Colts' new...

Peter King: League buzzing over Dwight Freeney

According to Peter King of SI.com, the NFL has been “buzzing” since the Colts told defensive end Dwight Freeney they won’t be re-signing him this offseason. I think the Dwight Freeney release had the league buzzing over the weekend. One GM who was very interested already in former Giant pass rusher Osi Umenyiora told me Freeney would leapfrog Umenyiora on his free-agent board...

Dwight Freeney wasn’t just a game changer. He changed the game…for me.

Colts Linebacker Dwight Freeney(Photo: Indy Star) Goodbye, old friend. There are certain players you have a kinship with. You feel like you know them, like you have a history with them, like you’ve been through some stuff with them…even if you’ve never met them. Dwight Freeney is one of those players for me. Dwight Freeney has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts for as...

Is Dwight Freeney a fit for Falcons?

Dwight Freeney had a disappointing season in 2012 with the Indianapolis Colts. Freeney had just 5 sacks and 12 tackles in 14 games last season but was hampered by an ankle injury that lingered during the season. He also didn't seem to be a good fit with the 3-4 defense that the Colts made the switch to in 2012. Even with a poor 2012, Freeney has averaged eight sacks per season...

Indianapolis Colts 2013 Offseason Preview

It is expected that a team with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft will enjoy a minor improvement record wise the next season. It is unheard of for a team that won just 2 games the year before to proceed to win 11 the next season. That is just a testament to how good Andrew Luck is and how influential a group of players playing for a common purpose, like putting a smile on their...

Colts bid farewell to Austin Collie

The Indianapolis Colts have told wide receiver Austin Collie that his contract isn't being renewed. Collie has a history of concussion issues.

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Colts release Austin Collie, won’t re-sign Dwight Freeney

According to Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, the Colts have released wide receiver Austin Collie and have informed defensive end/linebacker Dwight Freeney that they won’t be re-signing him. Freeney simply wasn’t a good fit in the Colts 3-4 defense.  He needs to go back to playing in a 4-3 as a defensive end. Collie on the other hand could never stay healthy.  He is a heck of...

Dwight Freeney is hitting the market: Should the Patriots sign him?

Yesterday, it was revealed that Dwight Freeney would not be returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2013 season. MT ‏@acwishtv BREAKING: I have been told Dwight Freeney has been informed the #Colts do not intend to re-sign him when free-agency begins — Mary Paoletti (@Mary_Paoletti) February 15, 2013 So, with pass rush being a big problem for the New England Patriots...

Dwight Freeney: New York Jets a Great Fit For Former Colts Stud

New York Jets fans, Dwight Freeney was recently cut by the Indianapolis Colts after 11 seasons and 107.5 sacks. He is the edge pass-rusher the Jets have never had in the Rex Ryan era! When looking at Freeney, think Michael Strahan, more on that thought in a moment. The Jets have tried and missed on previous edge rushers in the way of Calvin Pace, who in essentially the same number...

Sean Smith can stop worrying about franchise tag

Miami Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith was preparing for life under the franchise tag while "rooting strongly against it," according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post.Apparently, Smith has nothing to worry about in that regard. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reported Monday that the Dolphins "will NOT use their tag on Sean Smith. Period."That's the...

Report: Colts Will Not Re-Sign Either DE Dwight Freeney or WR Austin Collie

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star reports that the Colts have informed DE Dwight Freeney and WR Austin Collie on Friday that they will not re-signed during the offseason. “I was very surprised to hear they wanted to go in a different direction,” said Freeney in a text message sent to ESPN’s Ed Werder. “Would have been nice to retire a Colt.” Both players are set...
