It's time to re-emerge just in time for training camp.
My apologies for an extended absence prompted by the obligations of adult life and the slower cycle of Bengals news. But it’s time to break back into the black and orange – and I plan to do so in rapid-fire fashion. Here are a few things I’ve been thinking about our beloved Bengals:
-When’s the last time the roster was this loaded? The 1990s? You could argue that the early Carson Palmer teams had a similar assemblage of talent, but the defense really wasn’t as stocked. This team is balanced on both sides of the ball and that should give the Bengals a better chance to repeat their success.
-With that said, it’s wise to keep the schedule in mind. I think a return trip to the playoffs is entirely possible, but it’s no sure thing. Cincinnati has crossover games with the uber-talented NFC East (Cowboys, ‘Skins, Eagles, Giants) and the AFC West, which should be improved with the addition of Peyton Manning and a full season of Cars...

Bengals still trying to figure out where to place Devon Still
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted defensive lineman Devon Still in round two, but are still trying to figure out where to place him. Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer explains that the Bengals hope to get more insight whether Still should be a defensive tackle or a defensive end during upcoming Organized Team Activities. For now, Still prefers [...]
Looking Glass Game: Leon Hall
Today I want to consider the career trajectory of a more established player, Leon Hall. I was going to limit this series to younger players, and Hall is going into his 6th year in the league. But I kept coming back to Leon because of the diversity of opinion about him. Some consider him a terrific corner, while others think that he is nothing special. So let’s have some fun and...
Media members believe Kevin Zeitler was best offensive lineman in draft
The Cincinnati Bengals angered a good number of fans during the first round when they passed on Stanford offensive guard David DeCastro, allowing him to slide to their arch nemeses, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Instead of going after DeCastro, they decided to trade down from pick 21 to pick 27 and select Wisconsin guard Kevin Zeitler. Many questioned the move at the time, but the Bengals...
Leon Hall expects to return for training camp
Bengals veteran cornerback Leon Hall, recovering from a torn Achilles he suffered in last November's matchup against the Steelers, expects to return in time for training camp. After missing out on his second trip to the playoffs last season, Hall is eager to get back to work. He recently joined Cincinnati radio personality, Mo Egger, on 1530 Homer to talk about his recovery...
Paul Brown Stadium to allow fans to smoke... sort of
Mike Brown has made another move to appease disgruntled fans. Today, the Bengals decided to allow individuals to leave the stadium for a smoking break and come back in.
The stadium will section off areas around gates A, C, D & E with bike racks to allow smoking Cincinnatians to smoke outside and re-enter the stadium with no hassle. This has never been allowed at Paul Brown...
James Urban’s Shoes
James Urban, the Bengals’ wide receivers coach, has either the most fun or the most frustrating job of all the position coaches. The potential warehoused in the 12 players entrusted to his care is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, most of that potential has been minimally tested or completely untested at the pro level, leaving him and Marvin with the difficult job of cutting down...
Bengals optimistic Leon Hall will be ready for camp

According to Geoff Hobson of CincinnatiBengals.com, there’s some optimism within the Bengals organization that cornerback Leon Hall will be ready to go for training camp after tearing his Achilles in 2011.
Hall has been an outstanding corner for the Bengals since being drafted in 2007. Before he tore his Achilles last season, he recorded 32 tackles and 2 interceptions...

According to Pro Football Talk, the Cincinnati Bengals currently rank fifth in the NFL with $16.58 million available under the team's salary cap for 2012. Bengals To Use Committee Backfield
The Bengals official team website reports that running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis is going to be the starter, but he's expected to share carries with Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard. The report says "offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is going running-back-by-committee, the Bell Cow is extinct." The report also quotes Sports Illustrated NFL Insider Peter King that "...
Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer preparing for 2012 season
After a tumultuous 2011 season, Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer is excited to be back with the Raiders and looking forward to working during training camp. With a full offseason thus far, Palmer is optimistic about the upcoming season.
“Can’t wait for camp,” Palmer said after mini-camp. “We got a lot of good work in, and you never know what to expect as you’re...
