As most observed, the Colts showed some life despite losing 30-28 to Cincinnati in Thursday night's preseason finale.
It's difficult to assess where so many players are after my time away, but we saw so many reserves out there -- and so many regulars not in uniform or even visible on the sideline. This last game of the exhibition season is always about the bottom of the 75-man roster playing as much as possible.
Because of this, you can't help but wonder about certain players as final cuts loom this weekend. Some veterans have to play, but a few played extensively. And some others, guys we thought would have jobs, were out there, too.
Some asked on Twitter about Tom Brandstater unseating Curtis Painter as the backup QB. I know some fans who would like to see it. I could be wrong, but I tend to doubt it will happen. I've had the sense, from what Colts president Bill Polian and coach Jim Caldwell have said, that Painter is No. 2.
