Perhaps the most underrated players on any team are those on special teams. And no, I’m not referring to the Devin Hesters or Joe McKnights of the league, I’m talking about the guys who fight it out in the trenches to either help open up holes or shut them down. Third string tight end Josh Baker is one of those guys and he has the added bonus of being able to return the ball too. A season-ending injury to tight end Jeff Cumberland saw Baker, one of the first undrafted free agents signed by the Jets in July, promoted from the practice squad. Although his reps have been limited, he’s been making the most of his opportunities. Field position is always so important on special teams, and Josh Baker contributed two chunks of yards to the Jets’ FP in Sunday’s conquest of the Redskins. “What was that, my second kickoff return?” Baker asked me about his 29-yard runback to set the table around midfield for the first of the Jets’ three fourth-quarter touchdown drives. “I’m no longer a rooki
