Baltimore Ravens 7th-Round Pick Draws Major Comparisons
Robert Goddin-USA TODAY Sports

Following Geno Stone’s departure to the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens sought to address the gap in their defensive backfield.

Enter Sanoussi Kane, the team’s final selection in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Purdue.

Similar to Stone, Kane entered the league as a seventh-round pick back in 2020. Stone’s early career saw him shuffle between the practice squad and the active roster before finding his footing outside of Baltimore. His trajectory changed after a stint with the Houston Texans and a return to the Ravens in 2021.

Subsequently, Stone blossomed into a key contributor, earning a starting role by 2023. His standout performance, leading the league with seven interceptions, ultimately earned him a lucrative contract with the Bengals.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh spoke out about his new rookie and did not hold back from making some comparisons to Stone.

“Sanoussi [Kane] is a guy that we were talking about right at the end – it’s so much love between the scouts and the coaches. In some ways, he’s kind of similar to that guy from Iowa whose name will not be mentioned because he’s playing in the division here. But, we appreciate Geno [Stone] and all he did for us. But, [it’s] kind of a similar kind of pick – a really heady player, a really productive player.”

While Kane’s selection as the 250th overall pick doesn’t guarantee future success akin to Stone’s, it underscores the Ravens’ faith in his potential. While he faces an uphill battle for a prominent spot on the depth chart initially, Kane will have opportunities to prove himself and climb the ranks over time.

It will be interesting to see what kind of career Kane can put together with the Baltimore Ravens. He clearly has fans within the front office and coaching staff, which bodes well for him getting a great opportunity.
