I’ve gone back and forth on this one. On one hand, some of the reasons I didn’t like the Patriots last week are still true. They’re still a terrible post-season spread team, going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 post-season games and 4-8 ATS all-time as favorites of more than 4 in the post-season. Last year, they were favored by a similar amount in a similar situation here against Baltimore and they failed to cover. These two teams always play close. They’ve met 6 times since 2007 and only one game was decided by more than 6 points and that was in the Ravens’ favor. The Ravens have endured 4 losses by exactly a field goal to the Patriots in that time period, while the Patriots lost by 1 earlier this year. Joe Flacco matches up perfectly with a New England secondary that can’t defend the deep pass as Flacco goes deep more than any quarterback in the NFL. The Patriots also may be overconfident after scoring so many points last week. Teams are 3-14 ATS since 2002 off a post-season game in whi...

Can the Ravens win in New England with Joe Flacco and an old defense. Championship weekend preview.

The Ravens won last week, but they needed some big plays and luck.  They will need a lot more luck to win this weekend in New England. The Divisional round delivered some of the best football of the season.  Having the elite quarterbacks on the field definitely helped. This weekend we have a final four that should deliver more exciting football.  This is why the NFL is...

Joe Flacco: Can’t win with him, without him?

The Baltimore Ravens will find themselves in a dilemma at the end of the season; what to do with quarterback Joe Flacco? Flacco is in a contract year and will surely command big money if the Ravens decide the re-sign him. The problem is that whether or not Flacco is the future of the Ravens and deserves a big contract is easily debatable. At 6-6, 245 lbs, Joe Flacco has ideal stature...

Baltimore Ravens: Five Reasons They Will Lose the AFC Title Game

I remember it like it was yesterday. With 1:44 left on the clock, Joe Flacco drove his Ravens down the field with methodical purpose-- 2nd-and-1 from the 14, he promptly hit Lee Evens right in the hands for the apparent go-ahead touchdown. Knocked away by Sterling Moore. We all know what happened after that. Billy Cundiff's shanked 32-yard field goal crushed the Ravens'...

Flacco, Ryan seek fans' respect

It's Week 5 and the Baltimore Ravens just moved into sole possession of first place in the AFC North with a 9-6 win in Kansas City. The defense played well, the running game was solid, and the victory marks the team's fourth win in five games. But the locals aren't thrilled. The national media is starting to pile on. Fantasy football owners are stressing out. Joe Flacco...

On Sunday afternoon, Tom Brady and Joe Flacco will match up for the sixth time in their careers. So far in the budding rivalry, Brady has taken three games to Flacco’s two. In those games, Flacco has thrown for 1,271 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Brady has thrown for 1,278 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Flacco has completed 64.7 percent of his...

Patriots expect plenty of downfield shots from Ravens' offense

The New England Patriots' defensive backs will earn their paychecks Sunday.New England will be up against one of the NFL's most prolific downfield passing attacks in the Baltimore Ravens, who the Patriots will host in the AFC Championship game. “It is a big job this week to try and prevent that deep ball," Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib said Wednesday, via Patriots...

Ravens owner happy win or lose

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was unable to attend Saturday's game against the Denver Broncos because of the flu.  But he was very happy with the team win or lose. As Ravens head coach John Harbaugh exited the field after the Ravens pulled off a stunning victory in

Patriots vs. Ravens: AFC Championship Preview and Prediction

Sunday’s NFL nightcap features what promises to be an epic game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens in a cold and stormy Foxboro, Massachusetts. The game kicks off at 6:30 PM EST and will be aired on CBS. It is also a rematch of a week 3 battle that came down to the wire. Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw for 382 yards in that game, and the Ravens won by a single...

Can Flacco outplay Brady again?

Plain and simple, Tom Brady needs to outplay Joe Flacco, which he has not done in recent years when these two teams square off. Often lost in the dramatic victory last year is the fact that Brady was significantly outplayed by Flacco; and Brady’s mistakes (particularly an ill-advised deep pass to Matthew Slater in the fourth quarter, resulting in a momentum-shifting interception...

Patriots DBs wary of Ravens' long-ball potential

The New England Patriots defense cut down on allowing long completions as the season went on. The Baltimore Ravens never stopped making them. The Patriots (13-4) know they must keep Joe Flacco from connecting on deep throws to Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin and Jacoby Jones in Sunday's AFC championship game. Those wide receivers have combined for 13 catches that gained 40 or more...

Game Preview: Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

In what will be a highly entertaining and emotional rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game, the Baltimore Ravens travel 400 miles up the Eastern seaboard to take on the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots. The Ravens advanced by stunning the Denver Broncos 38-35 in double overtime, while the Patriots took care of business at home against the Houston Texans. Expect...

NFL Conference Championship Picks

Playoffs: 5-3  REGULAR SEASON: 168-86-1 (66%) Def. I can't believe I'm making this selection, but I just have a feeling the Ravens are on that kind of roll the Giants had last year. The return of many players including Ray Lewis has really rejuvenated this team. I don't have a big write-up on this one because logic does indeed point to the Patriots...
