The NFL trade deadline was at 4:00 pm EST on Tuesday, but that didn’t matter to the Baltimore Ravens. Bernard Scott (Kirby Lee/US Presswire) There was a lot of speculation that the Ravens would take advantage of the trade deadline by trying to get a wide receiver to help out the offense. There were reports that the team was looking at New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks as well as division rival Cleveland Browns wideout Josh Gordon. Although the Ravens did not make any trades by the deadline, the team did sign a running back to hopefully help out the Ravens’ struggling run game. Bernard Scott joined the Ravens on Monday after spending four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Scott was released from the Bengals organization in September after battling a series of injuries, the most detrimental being a torn ACL in Week 5 of last season. The new addition to the run game will serve as a backup to Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. However, Scott may be playing a larger role than expected with Pierce battling an injury. Pierce has been sidelined this week with a reported hamstring injury. It is unknown how severe the injury is, but having Scott on the roster as a valuable option is a good sign for the Ravens. Scott’s standout season was in 2011. He had 112 carries, ran for 380 yards and totaled four touchdowns. In addition to being a running back, he has been used as a kick returner in previous seasons with an average return of 24.5 yards. He’s a dangerous guy. He’s a guy that can take it the distance at any time.” Scott began practicing with the team on Tuesday and Harbaugh hopes to get him playing in games as soon as possible.   Related Articles Baltimore Ravens need Joe Flacco to step up Baltimore Ravens: Perfect timing for a bye week Baltimore Ravens: Pitta to return sooner than expected?
