Found January 18, 2013 on Football Nation:
I remember it like it was yesterday. With 1:44 left on the clock, Joe Flacco drove his Ravens down the field with methodical purpose-- 2nd-and-1 from the 14, he promptly hit Lee Evens right in the hands for the apparent go-ahead touchdown. Knocked away by Sterling Moore. We all know what happened after that. Billy Cundiff's shanked 32-yard field goal crushed the Ravens' Super Bowl hopes in a nanosecond and sent home a team that had clearly outplayed the Patriots all day.The best team did not win that day. A year later, the Ravens have a shot at redemption. Revenge. The only problem is, this year they aren't the best team on the field. They missed their window. Here are five reasons their fate is sealed.

Can the Ravens win in New England with Joe Flacco and an old defense. Championship weekend preview.

The Ravens won last week, but they needed some big plays and luck.  They will need a lot more luck to win this weekend in New England. The Divisional round delivered some of the best football of the season.  Having the elite quarterbacks on the field definitely helped. This weekend we have a final four that should deliver more exciting football.  This is why the NFL is...

Ravens, Joe Flacco Have Emerged as Patriots’, Tom Brady’s Biggest Rivals in NFL

On Sunday afternoon, Tom Brady and Joe Flacco will match up for the sixth time in their careers. So far in the budding rivalry, Brady has taken three games to Flacco’s two. In those games, Flacco has thrown for 1,271 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Brady has thrown for 1,278 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Flacco has completed 64.7 percent of his...

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots: AFC Conference Championship

I’ve gone back and forth on this one. On one hand, some of the reasons I didn’t like the Patriots last week are still true. They’re still a terrible post-season spread team, going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 post-season games and 4-8 ATS all-time as favorites of more than 4 in the post-season. Last year, they were favored by a similar amount in a similar situation here against...

Patriots expect plenty of downfield shots from Ravens' offense

The New England Patriots' defensive backs will earn their paychecks Sunday.New England will be up against one of the NFL's most prolific downfield passing attacks in the Baltimore Ravens, who the Patriots will host in the AFC Championship game. “It is a big job this week to try and prevent that deep ball," Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib said Wednesday, via Patriots...

Patriots vs. Ravens: AFC Championship Preview and Prediction

Sunday’s NFL nightcap features what promises to be an epic game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens in a cold and stormy Foxboro, Massachusetts. The game kicks off at 6:30 PM EST and will be aired on CBS. It is also a rematch of a week 3 battle that came down to the wire. Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw for 382 yards in that game, and the Ravens won by a single...

Can Flacco outplay Brady again?

Plain and simple, Tom Brady needs to outplay Joe Flacco, which he has not done in recent years when these two teams square off. Often lost in the dramatic victory last year is the fact that Brady was significantly outplayed by Flacco; and Brady’s mistakes (particularly an ill-advised deep pass to Matthew Slater in the fourth quarter, resulting in a momentum-shifting interception...

49ers waive Billy Cundiff

The Billy Cundiff era (if you can call it an era) is over after 17 days. The 49ers on Friday waived Cundiff, who they brought in on Jan. 1 to compete with erratic incumbent David Akers for the team’s kicker position moving forward. Akers won the job for last week’s divisional round game against the Packers (going 1-for-1 on field goals—a 36-yarder), but Jim Harbaugh kept Cundiff...

Patriots DBs wary of Ravens' long-ball potential

The New England Patriots defense cut down on allowing long completions as the season went on. The Baltimore Ravens never stopped making them. The Patriots (13-4) know they must keep Joe Flacco from connecting on deep throws to Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin and Jacoby Jones in Sunday's AFC championship game. Those wide receivers have combined for 13 catches that gained 40 or more...

Game Preview: Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

In what will be a highly entertaining and emotional rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game, the Baltimore Ravens travel 400 miles up the Eastern seaboard to take on the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots. The Ravens advanced by stunning the Denver Broncos 38-35 in double overtime, while the Patriots took care of business at home against the Houston Texans. Expect...

NFL Conference Championship Picks

Playoffs: 5-3  REGULAR SEASON: 168-86-1 (66%) Def. I can't believe I'm making this selection, but I just have a feeling the Ravens are on that kind of roll the Giants had last year. The return of many players including Ray Lewis has really rejuvenated this team. I don't have a big write-up on this one because logic does indeed point to the Patriots...

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots: Preview, Prediction, Point Spread, TV Time, and Announcers

This year’s AFC Championship is a rematch of the one played last year in which the Patriots were victorious. Last year’s game could have gone to overtime but a missed field goal by Billy Cundiff ended the game in regulation. This could be Ray Lewis’s last game in the NFL, so the Ravens continue to have have some added emotion and motivation for this game. Baltimore Ravens...

Ravens kicker Tucker confident he won't miss

If the Baltimore Ravens need a field goal in the waning seconds of the AFC championship game, they'll call upon a rookie with little regard for history. Justin Tucker knows all about the 32-yard kick that Billy Cundiff missed last January against the New England Patriots, costing the Ravens a chance to force overtime with a trip to the Super Bowl hanging in the balance. Tucker...

Is this the year the Ravens get back to the Super Bowl?

Here we are again. The Ravens are heading back to Foxborough, Mass., to face the New England Patriots in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game. Gillette Stadium was the scene last season where Lee Evans dropped a potential game-winning catch and Billy Cundiff missed a game-tying field goal. It’s time for the Ravens to exorcise their demons. Joe Flacco has outplayed...
