PLAYERS: Jonathan Amaya
Prosecutors have dropped a battery charge against Dolphins safety Jonathan Amaya, clearing the third-year player of allegations that he choked a cabdriver in November. According to public record, Miami-Dade prosecutors notified the court on Jan. 11 that their office would not proceed with the case, the Miami Herald reported. Amaya was arrested on Nov. 26 and charged with choking Jonathan Vunge in his cab after leaving a Miami Beach nightclub. But Amaya's attorney, Edward O'Donnell, disputed the accusation to Miami Herald in December, saying "Jonathon Amaya never laid a hand on this man, never touched him, never threatened him. When a full investigation is made, we believe charges will be dropped." Amaya, 24, has played mainly on special teams and has 37 career tackles with the Dolphins and the Saints. He is not under contract for 2013.
