For a team that has lost two of its best players to injury, linebacker Jon Beason and cornerback Chris Gamble, it would be expected to struggle defensively. Through their first six games of the season, the Carolina Panthers‘ defense is allowing over 360 total yards and giving up 24 points per game.  While not the best numbers in the league, it is an improvement over last year where they gave up over 370 yards and 27 points per game. The Panthers took a step at upgrading their defense in this past years’ draft, selecting middle linebacker Luke Kuechly out of Boston College with the ninth overall pick.  Kuechly has lived up to expectations this season, holding down the middle linebacker position and leading the team with 51 tackles. He started the season on the weak-side before the injury to Beason moved him to his natural position inside.  His anticipation and knowledge of the game is more similar to a seasoned veteran than a rookie and he has an uncanny nose for the football. Don't believe the critics: Cam Newton is a franchise quarterback

Panthers nation has been in a constant panic this week. First, it was another disconcerting press conference for their franchise quarterback, Cam Newton, after the Panthers suffered their fourth consecutive loss against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. Then, Monday, things became even more hectic when Marty Hurney was abruptly fired less than halfway through his 11th season as...

Panthers GM fired, Chris Gamble and Jon Beason placed on IR

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson fired general manager Marty Hurney on Monday following a disappointing 1-5 start to the 2012 season. Hurney, who held the general manager position since 2002, saw everything unravel quickly and unexpectedly over the past two-and-a-half seasons. From 2002-2009, the John Fox-led Panthers made the playoffs three times (2003, 2005, 2008),...

DeAngelo Williams Could Be Traded by Carolina

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams could be dealt before next week's trading deadline. SOURCE: Michael Lombardi, NFL NetworkFantasy Spin:Williams is expendable now that Jonathan Stewart has emerged as the team's every down back. The Panthers certainly wouldn't mind getting rid of his awful contract either (five years, $43 million). With that said, no deal is imminent...

Jonathan Stewart Under The Friday Night Lights

I love Friday nights Juan… Fantasy owners have been waiting for one of the Panthers RBs to emerge and J-Stew should be the guy that Rivera gives the rock to.  Rivera confirmed that he wanted to get one RB in a rhythm instead of rotating all three guys in and out of the lineup.  It’s about time. Stewart is a top 5-10 talent at the RB slot, but the most carries he has received...

Now, head coach Ron Rivera has made changes to their offensive line. Offensive Lineman Byron Bell has been moved back to right tackle. On Sunday, he started at right guard against the Dallas Cowboys. Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart To Make Second Straight Start This Week

Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart will make his second consecutive start Sunday against Chicago, although coach Ron Rivera plans to get DeAngelo Williams more work than a week ago. Panthers Ready To Listen To Offers For RB DeAngelo Williams?

Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network believes that the Panthers should be willing and prepared to trade RB DeAngelo Williams before the trade deadline. Lombardi mentions that the Panthers, after getting off to a 1-5 start, should start thinking ahead for next season. With Tuesday’s deadline approaching, the Panthers have an opportunity to trade for draft picks while getting rid...

Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears: Week 8 NFL Pick

Carolina Panthers (1-5) at Chicago Bears (5-1) I normally hate laying more than a touchdown, but I like the Bears this week for several reasons. The first reason is simply that I think they’re the best team in the league in this wide open NFL (the undefeated Falcons have played a cupcake schedule and won [...]

Week Eight NFL Game Preview: Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears

The Carolina Panthers (1-5) and the Chicago Bears (5-1) will meet for the eighth time ever on Sunday afternoon. The Bears lead the all-time series 4-3.
