Recently, we've seen Bears' players active in White Sox activities, as both Major Wright and Tim Jennings have thrown out two of the team's most recent ceremonial first pitches at US Cellular Field. And now, another link between the two Chicago organization developed in Thursday's first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. With the 20th pick in the draft, the Bears selected offensive lineman Kyle Long out of the University of Oregon, as he's expected to compete for a starting job in his rookie season. But this is not the first time he's been drafted to a Chicago team. In the 23rd round of the 2008 MLB draft, the White Sox drafted Long out of high school before he decided to honor his commitment to Florida State University to play baseball for the Seminoles. The Virginia native was a flame-throwing southpaw, often hitting 95-96 MPH on the radar gun. He also had a lot of power at the plate. Unfortunately, he flunked out of FSU. But for a physical specimen like Long, once he got his head 'screwed on straight,' he was bound to find athletic success. Even though we normally do see players of Chicago's teams usually supporting the other organizations around town, it's nice to lock up Long as a south sider. If he's successful with the Bears, that'll be some nice publicity for the White Sox around town.
