Bears move TE Olsen
After sitting on the sidelines during the NFL’s mad scramble for players during the early portion of the week, the Chicago Bears dived head-first into the fray Thursday, making a series of personnel moves that culminated with the trade of tight end, and former first-round draft pick, Greg Olsen to Carolina.
Initially, it was believed the Bears would receive a player and draft pick as compensation, but sources later reported Chicago will receive a third-round choice in next spring’s NFL draft in return. It was a puzzling end to Olsen’s four-year Bears career. Heralded as a fine receiving talent coming out of the University of Miami in 2007, Olsen’s career improved each year but seemed to stagnate last year in offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s sytem. Olsen grabbed 41 passes for 404 yards and five touchdowns last season.
