By Vaughn McClure Todd Collins stood and watched as starter Jay Cutler and Caleb Hanie got the reps to begin individual drills Wednesday.Before practice started, Collins said he was given no indication of having been dropped to third string behind Hanie, even after his four-interception outing at Carolina."You never want to take a demotion," Collins said. "The way the game went on Sunday, when I got replaced, it just wasn't my day."Collins started for Cutler, who was held out with a mild concussion.
Although the Bears won the game 23-6 and had success running the ball,
Collins completed just 6 of 16 passes for 32 yards and had a quarterback
rating of 6.2 before being benched in favor of Hanie.
"At times, we didn't seem in sync," Collins said. "At other times, we
had some opportunities to make some plays and I didn't have time to make
the plays. It was really run-oriented, so I never seemed to get into a
good rhythm."
