Brandon Marshall is 6’4”, Alshon Jeffery is 6’4” and Marquess Wilson is 6’3”. When it comes to the Bears’ wide receiver core, size definitely matters. The big receivers are terrific but the Bears could use a little guy to compliment the trio. If there’s a weakness in the receiving core it’s in the slot. The Bears don’t have a quick receiver who can add presence underneath. It’s always valuable for a quarterback to have a smaller slot receiver who is a matchup nightmare. Look at what Peyton Manning and Tom Brady has to work with. Wes Welker had 73 receptions and 10 touchdowns in a loaded offense last season. Julian Edelman took over for Welker in New England and had 105 receptions. Both players are the league’s premier slot receivers. Greg Jennings was terrific for Green Bay and the Bears saw what Randall Cobb can do up close and personal. Alshon Jeffery is the Bears best receiver they have drafted

The Chicago Bears are not a team that’s known for throwing the football.  The franchise’s all-time receptions leader is Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton.  The Bears have 27 members enshrined in Canton, and zero played wide receiver.  Two years is hardly enough time to judge a player’s career, but if Alshon Jeffrey stays healthy and Chicago manages to keep him around...

Brandon Marshall will watch the free agent market closely

Brandon Marshall has been highly productive since being traded to the Bears a couple of seasons ago. He’s going into the final year of his deal and will look to be extended by Chicago but at what cost? This year’s crop of free agent wide receivers isn’t overly impressive. Eric Decker and James Jones figure to be a top the market once free agent season begins. Marshall will...

Cornelius Washington Scouting Report: The Future

Chicago Bears Football – Who is this Cornelius Washington and can he be a threat to an NFL offense? Walter Payton: NFL Rewind

Poetry in motion, what does that mean?  Moving that is so fluid and carefree that it is in harmony with everything around it. This sounds a bit crazy when you think of the game of football. Football is a series of violent collisions that are bone jarring and not very harmonious. When you think of poetry in motion on a football field, for me, one name comes to mind “Sweetness.”...

Fixing the Chicago Bears Part III - Secondary

The Chicago Bears have some work to do on defense. The team, in it's first season without Lovie Smith calling the shots in a decade, finished 8-8, but defense was easily worse than their record showed. They finished the season last in the NFL in sacks, and allowed the most 20+ yard runs of any team in the league (18). They seemed to get burned by opposing teams no matter who...
