The Chicago Bears are in a huge bind now with starting quarterback Jay Cutler out indefinitely with a broken thumb. The new Bears starter is untested Caleb Hanie and the team has no one backing him up. ESPN Chicago reports that the Bears have their eyes on a couple Mike Martz’s former quarterbacks.
An eight-year veteran, McCown is familiar with the system employed by offensive coordinator Mike Martz from playing for the coach in 2006 as a member of the Detroit Lions.
The Houston Texans worked out veteran quarterbacks Jeff Garcia, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle and Kellen Clemens on Monday, but it’s unclear if the Bears have any interest in them. Like McCown, veterans J.T. O’Sullivan and Marc Bulger have experience in Martz’s offense, but Bulger said over the summer that he is done playing football. (ESPN Chicago)
