Bears' interest in Senior Bowl standout could lead to more additions being made in the backfield
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL Draft is just around the corner and with official team Pro Days happening across the country, teams are also beginning to schedule their official Top-30 visits with potential draft targets in the coming days.

The Chicago Bears have made their rounds across various universities over the past two weeks getting a first-hand look at some of their top options in the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, the next phase of the process is beginning with the Bears conducting their upcoming visits with various prospects.

According to our own Sophie Weller, the Bears and the New Orleans Saints are scheduled to have an upcoming Top-30 visit with New Hampshire running back Dylan Laube ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

During his time at New Hampshire, Laube showed off how much of a versatile threat he can be out of the backfield with his elusiveness, quickness, and skills as a receiver. After receiving an invite to the 2024 Senior Bowl, Laube was really able to put himself on the radar of more NFL teams while competing with some the best prospects that will be selected in April's draft.

"Getting [the] invite was unreal," Laube said following the event. "The 10 best backs in the country come to this game and to be recognized as one of those 10 backs, it's just a dream come true. All the things that I've worked on for my whole life, it's kind of fulfilling now and getting that recognition is so cool.

Coming from a small non-Power 5 school, Laube knew it would be a difficult task to turn the heads of NFL scouts who are looking to find their team's next threat out of the backfield but so far, that hasn’t deterred his mindset.

As a smaller sized back, Laube has made his mark at New Hampshire has a dual-threat running back after recording 715 rushing yards and 699 receiving yards in 2023. Laube is hoping to follow in the footsteps of similar style backs who have entered the league and played at a high level once getting there.

"I've heard Christian McCaffrey, Austin Ekeler, Danny Woodhead, James White, all versatile guys and threats in the receiving game," Laube said. "I think I've molded my game around that."

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Laube noted that he had a formal meeting with the Bears at the event and now the team is doing even more homework on the dynamic running back. Laube noted at the combine that he's "one of, if not the best back in the draft" and his abilities has a rusher, receiver, and returner certainly sets him apart from the other pure running backs in the class.

The Bears already made one splash addition to the backfield after bringing in D'Andre Swift in free agency to join the room with Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson. Also in the running back room is Travis Homer, who played a high volume of special teams snaps in 2023. If the Bears look to pursue going after Laube, he'll have to be ready to compete for a spot on the roster in 2024.
