Bears LB T.J. Edwards Wants Matt Eberflus to Return in 2024
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards recently made an appearance on the "Ross Tucker Podcast," during which he talked about head coach Matt Eberflus. Edwards, who was shockingly left off the Pro Bowl roster, described how Eberflus is a great, adaptive coach, adding that he hopes Eberflus returns in 2024.

T.J. Edwards on Head Coach Matt Eberflus

Edwards currently leads the Bears in total tackles by a wide margin with 145. The second-highest tackler on the Bears is Tremaine Edmunds with 103, but the pair share leadership duties on the defense.

Given Edwards' role and the production to justify it, his voice carries a lot of weight in Chicago.

Eberflus has faced a lot of criticism in 2023, but he also deserves credit for carrying the Bears through the adversity they faced. Edwards was especially complimentary Eberflus's openness to feedback.

Edwards also commented on Eberflus's ability to adapt and utilize what and who he has in the building. The veteran linebacker mentioned that Ebeflus isn't one to get stuck in his ways and that his aggressive energy is appreciated.

The narrative around Eberflus fluctuated throughout the 2023 season. Many fans have called for his firing while others cling to the prospect of him earning one more offseason alongside Ryan Poles to build the team up.

Whether or not that includes keeping quarterback Justin Fields is a moot point in January before the offseason officially begins. But Eberflus has at least earned the respect of the players, especially on the defensive side, enough to gain their support heading into a questionable offseason.
