Chicago Bears right guard Lance Louis was placed on injured reserve and is out for the rest of the season with a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, the team announced Monday. Louis started all 11 games for the 8-3 Bears this year. The Chicago Tribune reported that the typical timeline for recovery from an ACL tear is eight to 10 months. Louis was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's 28-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Louis was blindsided by Vikings defensive end Jared Allen after an interception thrown by quarterback Jay Cutler. Allen said he thought his hit on Louis was fair game, but Bears coach Lovie Smith disagreed. "Jared Allen plays the game a certain way, good player in our league," Smith said. "But I think there are some plays, when you look at them again, you say, 'Hey, we could have done without that.' "I think our game could do without that play. We have an injured player right now based on it. I think you could have gotten him blocked a little bit differently. That's about all I should probably say about it." Allen was not penalized on the play. Louis was one of six Bears who left Sunday's game injured, including starting running back Matt Forte, left guard Chris Spencer (knee), wide receiver/returner Devin Hester (concussion) and cornerback Charles Tillman (ankle). Gabe Carimi filled in for Louis but Smith said the team also has other options. Center Roberto Garza has played guard and the team recently promoted rookie tackle/guard James Brown. Veteran Chilo Rachal is no longer an option. He was put on the reserve/non-football injury list for the remainder of the season after he had a meltdown when he lost his starting spot to Spencer.
