Bears QB Justin Fields lands with AFC West team in intriguing trade proposal

The Las Vegas Raiders could use a dynamic playmaker at the most important position. Perhaps Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is the answer.

In a trade proposal from ESPN, Las Vegas dealt a second- and seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for the 24-year-old. Raiders reporter Paul Guiterrez added assistant general manager Champ Kelly was with the Bears when they drafted Fields with the 11th overall pick in 2021.
Chicago has the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Per Tankathon, the Bears will replace Fields, selecting Southern Cal's Caleb Williams, a 2022 Heisman winner.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo — who signed a three-year, $72.75M deal last offseason — disappointed. In six starts, he threw more interceptions (nine) than TDs (seven) and posted a below-average 33.9 QBR. Las Vegas benched him following a Week 8 loss to the Detroit Lions, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it released the 32-year-old this offseason.

Rookie QB Aidan O'Connell — a fourth-round pick out of Purdue — looked serviceable but failed to clearly establish himself as the future of the franchise. In 10 starts, the 25-year-old completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 12 TDs and seven picks and was sacked 24 times.

Fields, meanwhile, is more mobile. He rushed for 637 yards and four TDs in 13 games. He also completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 16 TDs and nine picks. His numbers might improve with the Raiders' talented receiving corps, which includes six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers.

Fields is still on his rookie contract, which includes a fifth-year option, and his 2024 guaranteed salary is $3.2M. Over The Cap estimates the Raiders have $36.04M in cap room. The Raiders should seriously consider acquiring a QB with some upside. Plus, it's an affordable move.
