Found May 25, 2012 on Midway Illustrated:
The Chicago Bears are looking for added DT depth heading into the 2012 season and signed a player they scouted during the lead up to the 2010 draft.  Nate Collins a UDFA who originally signed with the New York Giants was picked up by the Bears this week and is a training camp body who might turn into something more. Collins was scouted by the Bears even though he wasn't invited to the NFL combine the Bears brought him in for a workout at Halas Hall.  He was at the time projected as a late round selection UDFA project with some potential but overall is a raw athlete.  Collins' burst off the ball however was evident while in college. I wrote up this scouting report on Collins for the site during the draft evaluation process of 2010.  I also caught some YouTube highlights of Collins that showed why the Bears had interest in him.  He has the burst off the ball and that ability to attack the gaps.  The question is has Collins kept in shape is he still interested in an NFL career and could the Bears parlay his potential into a spot on the 53-man roster as the fourth DT on the roster. Collins was able to make the 53-man roster in Jacksonville and he appeared in 13 games over the last two seasons.  So he's made an NFL roster already and will have a shot here in Chicago.  At 6-foot-2 296-pounds he fits the profile for what the Bears do on defense with their DTs. Having played with the Giants Collins has experience in the Lovie Smith defense given that current Giants DC Perry Fewell is a former coach of Smith's.  With Collins' signing the Bears' roster now stands at the limit of 90 players.

McCarthy, Urlacher officially an item

The former Playmate of the Year finally confirmed the rumors that she and the Bears superstar linebacker are indeed a couple.

If Johnny Knox is Done for 2012, Where do the Bears Turn?

When Chicago Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox suffered a horrifying injury to vertebrae in his back last December, many anticipated that this would happen. But Bears fans were optimistic that Knox might be ready to go by the time the 2012 NFL season kicked off. If his appearance in organized team activities this morning were any indication, that just might be a pipe dream as he seems...

Bears' Bush showing unexpected skills as receiver

One of the early positive elements of the Chicago Bears' workouts, perhaps even an epiphany of sorts to some coaches, has been the performance of tailback Michael Bush as a receiver. The four-year veteran, signed from Oakland as an unrestricted free agent and presumptive backup to franchise tailback Matt Forte, has caught the ball well. There were some concerns as the Bears...

Jay Cutler to get a long term deal from Bears before Matt Forte?

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jay Cutler could be getting a long term deal from the Bears before Matt Forte. Cutler is due 16.17 million over the final 2 years of his deal, while Matt Forte has yet to sign his 7.7 million dollar franchise tender in hopes of a long term deal. These are the first real rumblings of a Cutler extension and an extension would likely not sit well with...

Jay Cutler could get a new contract before Matt Forte

Getty Images David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune indicated that he wouldn’t be surprised if Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler ends up getting a contract extension before running back Matt Forte and I can’t argue with him. I don’t even expect the Bears to re-sign Forte,  I think they’re dumb enough to let him walk in free agency after this season.  They haven’t respected...

Bears to use the tight end more in 2012

With Mike Martz as their offensive coordinator, the Bears did not use the tight end much in their offense. Martz has never figured out how to incorporate tight ends into his very specific offense, struggling to do so with both Vernon Davis and Greg Olsen. The Bears traded Greg Olsen last season because he didn’t fit with what Martz was trying to do and basically gave up on the...

Brian Urlacher might test free agency after this season

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune that he’s considering testing the free agent market after this coming season. “I think (team President) Ted Phillips said when they had the owners meeting they’re going to wait until the season is over. See what happens, how I play (before addressing the contract situation),” Urlacher said Friday on WMVP-AM...

Urlacher sits, Knox visits during Bears ota’s

The second day of Chicago Bears organized team activities brought a bevy of news. Among the developments: Linebacker Brian Urlacher continues to mend from off-season surgery and won’t take part in any workouts or the veteran’s mini-camp in June, preferring to recuperate in time for late July’s training camp in Bourbonnais. Former first round tackle Chris Williams, who played guard [...]

Around the NFC North

With Brandon Marshall part of his arsenal once again, Jay Cutler is excited about the Bears offense. Another receiver is making headlines with the Lions, but it’s for his absence after taking a swing at a teammate. In Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers will have some new challenges: breaking in a new center and working with inexperienced backup quarterbacks.

Bear Report Radio v12.1

In the inaugural episode of Bear Report Radio, publisher Jeremy Stoltz talks with Brett Solesky of about the Chicago Bears' offseason through the first week of OTAs.

NFL Predictions - NFC North Records

Time to start looking at records for next season. Teams are taking shape in OTA's and getting a feel for who they added via the Draft and Free Agency. Here is a look at the NFC North: Vikings (4 Wins) - This team needs a lot of work. With AP coming off injury and the fact that Ponder is not an NFL QB they're in trouble. Bears (10 Wins) - I really like what...
