When reports surfaced Tuesday that Kyle Orton was waived by the Denver Broncos after being benched in favor of Tim Tebow, every Bears fan wondered if it was time for the Neckbeard to return to the Chicago.
The timing, just days after Jay Cutler injured his thumb, was too perfect.
However, the Bears weren't the only team with a need at QB. The Houston Texans recently lost Matt Schaub for the season, and Matt Cassel is on injured reserve for the Chiefs. Both teams were ahead of the Bears on the waiver wire, and there was always the possibility that an NFC North foe would pick up Orton just to mess with the Bears.
Alas, it's not time for a homecoming for the Neckbead. He was picked up by the Chiefs, where he will have a chance to be a starter.
The Bears signed Josh McCown, who started 31 of 47 games played in eight NFL seasons with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers.
