The Chicago Bears signed quarterback Josh McCown on Wednesday to serve as a backup to new starter Caleb Hanie. The Bears are looking to bolster their quarterback depth after losing Jay Cutler to a fractured thumb. McCown is familiar with the system employed by Mike Martz after playing with the offensive coordinator during his stint with the Detroit Lions. "The value for us that I saw is that he's very familiar with what we do," Martz told ESPN Chicago. "He's not a guy that has to come in and learn the system, learn the numbers, learn the system, learn the route trees and stuff. He's been through that, so he gives us a guy who can go right in there and play." McCown last played for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League. He has thrown for 6,584 yards with 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions during his NFL career.
