The night before the Bears vs. Jaguars game a Bears fan Chris Pettry was murdered at a Jacksonville bar. Matthew Hinson confessed to slashing Pettry’s throat, but hasn’t given a reason why.

Sometimes with a tragedy we only think about about the victim. We forget that with any tragedy there are far reaching effects on the living.

Pettry had a wife and three kids. As you will see from this story by Chicago Sun-Times by Sean Jensen they are struggling on how to comprehend, what was suppose to be a fun trip to watch a football game went so horrible wrong.

“It’s shocking,” Pettry told the Sun-Times. ‘‘I feel like I’m going to wake up from this dream and it’s going to get back to normal.

“But I can’t believe this is happening. My kids don’t have a daddy, and I don’t have a husband anymore. All because of him.”

“It’s been very stressful for us,” she said, “but I can’t thank everyone enough for helping my family. I can’t believe it.”

Understandably, Mrs. Pettry is concerned about how she is going to pay the bills and provide for her 3 children.  Chris Pettry was a hard worker.  This is someone who owned his own construction business, but was hit hard by the economic downturn. Mrs. Pettry says sometimes her husband had to work 20 hours a day just to make sure the bills were paid and food was put on the table.

Thankfully a lot of the Bears current and former players like Brandon Marshall and  Tommie Harris are coming to the aid of Mrs. Pettry and you can help as well.

They are hosting a fundraiser in Chicago and here are the details.
